1st International Symposium on Water Environment

2014.03.09

1st International Symposium on Water Environment:
Program for Capacity Building in Global Water-Environmental Engineering, Chuo University

Purpose of the Symposium

In the world, not only the giant disasters (flood and drought disaster etc.) related to the water occurs frequently but also the water environment or the waterside ecosystem is going worse. As one of the central activities of the “highly skilled professionals development projects through the exchange among universities of Japan, China, the Republic Koreas and other countries”(now “Campus Asia” base support projects) established by the  Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (MEXT) in 2010. Chuo University has established a minor on global Environment Science and Engineering beside the major of civil engineering in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering.Chuo University has strived to foster highly skilled professionals in the field of water environment and water treatment through academic exchanges among the universities constituting a “Program” consortium. Chuo University is also working under the principle “A commitment to promoting sustainability through education” (Principle 9) to make social and international contributions from academia. This is also an initiative of the United Nations Academic Impact. General Assembly of the United Nations has decided March 22, 2013 as the day of “World Water Day” in the “International Year of Water Cooperation” in order to draw the world’s attention to water-related issues. As a special program on the World Water Day, we are going to hold an international symposium on water environment and its sustainability in Chuo University to promote the activities on resolving inter-nations and regions and worldwide water-related issues under global warming circumstances. In the symposium, the following experiences will be widely shared through discussions and dialogues with the researchers engaged.
