Happy New Year, and I extend my warmest greetings to you all!
Chuo University was founded as the Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School) in 1885 by a group of 18 young attorneys. With the philosophy of “Fostering the Ability to Apply Knowledge to Practice,” the founders sought to cultivate a new generation of competent individuals to meet the needs of society through wide-ranging practical education and academic research. We are committed to carrying on our proud tradition of providing this practical education, and utilizing it in our research and educational activities. But our practical education is not only aimed at acquiring practical knowledge. At its heart, we strive to nurture a creative spirit of criticism through academic research and to cultivate intelligence to respond to issues facing society, a goal that is captured in our university motto, “Knowledge into Action.”
Recognizing that Chuo University will commemorate its 140th anniversary in 2025, we released Chuo Vision 2025 in 2015, a development plan that includes the establishment of multiple new faculties, the upgrading of campuses, continued promotion of global initiatives, and the promotion of sports.
Furthermore, committed to another year of growth and development, we promise our sincere efforts, and I would like to ask all of you, students, faculty, staff, alumni and Chuo Community stakeholders, for your understanding, cooperation and support to ensure that 2018 is even more dynamic and successful than years past.
