The 11th International Week (November 1-December 14, 2019)


Chuo University presented the 11th International Week this year with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and Asian regions.

The title of the lecture was "SDGs and Financial Inclusion : Lessons Learned from Africa", and more than 100 students gathered to attend the lecture by the ambassador.
Beginning in 2011, International Week offers various events focusing on a certain country, region, or international organization every year, with the aim of promoting the internationalization of Chuo and motivating the students’ intellectual curiosity.

In the year of 2019, the University launched a series of events including a lecture by Ambassador of Benin, open classes with special lecturers from international organizations such as UNICEF, World Bank, and JICA, and an African film festival (screenings three documentary movies) with special guest speakers. Moreover, special lectures and projects were held to learn about international cooperation with the theme of Africa. Some various guest speakers such as an international students from Gabonese Republic, graduates active in Africa, some students who had done internship in Africa gave their presentations with diverse experiences. In addition, there were some events relating to the theme; African photo exhibition were held in library community space, the college cafeterias offered some African menus, and the college stationary store coordinated the African product exhibitions.

Faculty of Economics / FLP International Cooperation Program Mitsuhiro Hayashi Seminar
UNICEF gave a special lecture "Current Status and Issues of Immunization in Africa and Asia".  After the lecture, Chuo students experienced fundraising activities to demonstrate their serious commitment to the region and support for the UNICEF operation.

November 12, 2019
"Study-Abroad-Experience" Presentation
An international student from Gabon and two Japanese students of Chuo, who did internship in African region, gave presantations based on their experiences. After the presantations, they had a talk and discussed the concerning issues of Africa.

November 11 - 15, 2019
African Product Exhibition & African Menu (Chuo University Co-op) project

Cafeteria offered various kinds of African food menus. This picture is Ghanaian Chicken and Peanut Stew.

November 13-15, 2019
African Film Festival 
Documentary films on Africa were screened for three nights. Special guests were invited each day and talked on the theme of the films and their devoted activities for Africa.

November 18 -22, 2019
TICAD7 Commemorative Photo Exhibition "Africa, the Emerging Continent"-Works by World Bank officials and Sadao Watanabe. 

A photo exhibition was held using photos exhibited by the World Bank during TICAD7 held in Yokohama.

Lecture by Ambassador of the Republic of Benin

The Ambassador of the Republic of Benin, His Excellency Makarimi Abissola Adechoubou, gave a special lecture titled "SDGs and Financial Inclusion : Lessons Learned from Africa", and more than 100 students and faculties gathered to attend the lecture by the ambassador.  The audience seemed to deepen their understanding of the current situation in the Republic of Benin and Africa and learned the importance of SDGs and economy.
