Program for Capacity Building in
Global Water-Environmental Engineering
The themes of the meeting included (1)The implementation of a winter internship program in academic year 2012 was explained, (2)Students who were admitted to the program in 2013 introduced their recent conditions, (3)The state of applications for 2014 Overseas Students Special Admission on Recommendation were presented, (4)A report was made on the “1st International Symposium on Water Environment.
The Report on the Winter internship program in academic year 2012 was presented by 12 students enrolled in the ”Global Water Science and engineering” minor in the first semester of their doctorial course. The students participated in the internship under cooperation of governmental agencies and industries this term. Since there were many disasters involving the water environment in recent years, the internships of many students were performed in administration and management divisions to learn risk management. In the meeting, instruction and advice, such as acting as a scientist or an engineer, were performed by professors and participants of the Network for Education and Research meeting.
Then, eight students majoring in the “Global Water Environment Course” (the first semester of doctorial course) introduced their conditions. Seven of them were overseas students. They reported that they were looking forward to the summer internship and studying not only about a specialty but also about Japanese culture through a valuable experience.
The third was the state of applications for 2014 Overseas Students Special Admission on Recommendation which was presented by Mr. Odaira, General Coordinator of the Program cum specially appointed professor for the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. He stated that the examination would be given to 13 applicants from China, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam at their universities in May.
Mr. Odaira then introduced the outline of the”1st International Symposium on Water Environment” held on “World Water Day”, which is March 22, and also described the name of the Program was gradually known to the academic and business world for various of activities.
Finally, Dr. Tadashi Yamada, the Program organizer cum professor for the Graduate School of Science and Engineering introduced the situation that around 50 students including research students and students who will major the doctoral course from the second semester would study the Program from October, but this cannot be realized without cooperation of partners of the Network for Education and Research. Prof. Yamada would like to appreciate them from the bottom of his heart.
