Global Water-Environmental Engineering
Research project on the elucidation of influence and the adaptation measures which a climate change has on a river or water environment
A “Research project on the elucidation of influence and the adaptation measures which climate change has on a river or water environment” was started as one of the projects of the Institute of Science and Engineering on April 1, 2014.
Research will be conducted in cooperation with the faculty work of the Water Resources University in Vietnam which is a partner university of the “Program for Capacity Building in Global Water-Environmental Engineering” (referred after as “Program”), researchers in public agencies and partner businesses concerned with “Network for Education and Research”, teaching staff of civil and environmental engineering majors, and two students who completed the “Program” (one Japanese student and one overseas student). The Project is implemented in Japan and Vietnam for three years.
The research focuses on the following three themes concerning global warming, and the result of the research will be proposed as a technical contribution measure in the field of the water environment of our country in the East Asia region as well as Vietnam.
Theme 1: To build a flood runoff forecasting model utilizing of
the hydro meteorological data, and the rainfall data model based on a satellite observation, as well as to build the flood simulation with utilization of the advanced remote sensing technology, such as high resolution satellite images and a flood forecasting system of the real time by “Common Modeling Platform water-related software” (referred after as “CommonMP”) will be developed in Vietnam and Japan.
Theme 2: In Vietnam and Japan, to elucidate the morph sis process of the water quality environment, both in ordinary times and in the time of short-time strong rainfall, and also elucidate the influence of rainfall on the structure of water quality by investigating the environment of the bottom sediment. Highly practical measures to improve water quality in both countries will be developed in this way.
Theme 3: In this research, it is intended to build a model to estimate the change of future amounts of water resources in consideration of the influence of climate change, water consumption and yield of production of main agricultural products in Vietnam.
