Project for Sustainable Management of River Basin Systems



The technological innovations and organizing existing technologies for river engineering are aspired to create a rich society in safety and security that can enjoy intrinsic benefits of rivers. The following missions are tackled, applying new technologies developed for each river to the field: design method for stable cross-sectional form, technologies for visualizing and comprehending flood flows and bed variations in rivers based on the numerical analysis with observed water surface profiles, propagation mechanism of flood flows in rivers, technologies for levee safety assessment during flood, sediment dynamics in gravel-bed rivers, flood control and sediment flushing methods in dams, calculation methods for local scours around structures and bed forms during flood events, mixing processes of fresh water and saltwater with sediment dynamics in estuarine, countermeasures against tsunami in rivers and tsunami disaster mitigations.
