R&D on Mass Cultivation and Harvesting of Microalgae with high oil content and Hydrotreating Process for biodiesel production



Algae-based biofuel is called as a third-generation biofuel and will help to achieve sustainable carbon free society. However, because of their expensive oil-production cost, the commercialization is difficult to be done. To achieve their commercialization, we should develop a technology that enable both high energy productivity and low cost in the production of algae bio-fuel. In this study, we focus on the acidophilic green-microalgae, Pseudococcomyxa sp. One of the objective is that we will harvest the microalgae from cultured solution with the use of membrane. Second objective is that we will develop the gene-modified microalgae with having a high oil productivity.
